Mark Melvin is a qualified Chartered Accountant (UK) and Chartered Financial Analyst with over 20 years international experience in business and finance. He joined BIAS in 1993 and is a senior member of the management team working closely with Robert Pires in developing the company’s corporate and investment strategies. Previously, Mr. Melvin had been Chief Financial Officer and Director of exempted venture capital company, Eastbrook. Joining Eastbrook in 1988, he had responsibility for the management of the Bermuda, Brazil, London and Paris offices as well as the financial control for the worldwide group operating in 13 countries across the U.S., South America, Europe and the Far East. Mr. Melvin first arrived in Bermuda in 1985 to join the Bermuda Monetary Authority in his principle role of regulator to the financial services industry on the island. Working closely with the Bank of England and Bank for International Settlements, he implemented many of the now well established and internationally recognised Bermuda banking regulatory standards. Towards the latter part of his appointment he was seconded as a part-time financial advisor to the Ministry of Finance and acted as Inspector of Companies reporting on several official inquiries. Mr. Melvin completed his accounting training and qualifications in the City of London, working for the long-established accountancy firm, Moore Stephens & Co, before moving to Charterhouse Bank. Focussing on operational matters with Charterhouse, Mr. Melvin was seconded to Jersey and the Bahamas to lead both operational and computer systems related projects. Mr. Melvin is a member of the Bermuda Society of Financial Analysts. In 1996 he was appointed to the international Curriculum Board of the Chartered Financial Analyst’s examining body, having been involved with them in grading examinations since 1993. Mr. Melvin is involved with numerous local Bermuda sports
clubs and associations and has twice chaired the Round the
Sound Swimathon charity event. He has been a board member
of the Sharks swimming club. He is married with two children.
