European shares turned mixed after Wall Street stocks rose, with investor sentiment worldwide affected as Greek leaders face crunch talks to secure a fresh bailout package and avoid a messy default.

Greek resistance to the strict conditions attached to a bailout fund capped the recent strength in Asian shares. Gains in Japan Tobacco and shippers offered support to the Nikkei. After the close, Toyota reported a forecast-beating 51% rise in quarterly operating profit.
